Archive Summary

The Mad Dog is a heavy Clan OmniMech developed by Clan Smoke Jaguar as a second-generation design derived in part from the earlier Lupus and built using some of the same molds as the Timber Wolf. Though originally intended as an insult to rival Clans and their machines, the design proved so effective that it spread widely across Clan toumans.

Known to the Inner Sphere as the Vulture, the name came naturally from its hunched shoulders, protruding head, and reverse-jointed legs. Its battlefield image as a circling fire support hunter matched the silhouette well, even if Clan pilots were never meant to simply linger at range in passive overwatch.

With ample pod space, good mobility, and strong long-range missile fire backed by pulse lasers, the Mad Dog became one of the most common and recognizable heavy OmniMechs of the Clan invasion era. It is especially favored by Clan Ghost Bear, offering a fast and flexible weapons platform that can pressure the enemy across multiple ranges.
